How to Reset the WordPress Password?
First, go to the login screen of your WordPress blog. To open the WordPress login screen type:
http://www.yoursite.com/login/
Replace the www.yoursite.com with your website address. After opening the login screen you will see a link mentioning "Lost your password?", just below the login form. See the picture below:
Click on the "Lost your password?" link and it will take you to another page asking you to provide the affected WordPress username or email address.
Enter the username or email address you use to log into your WordPress blog. This email address is same as what you have provided during the installation or at time of registration on your WordPress blog. After entering the username or email address, click the "Get New Password" button.
If you have provided a valid username or email address, WordPress will send you a password reset verification email to the respective email address associated with that account. It will also show you a message mentioning “Check your e-mail for the confirmation link” notification on the login screen.
Check the inbox of your email account; you will receive an email with a subject line: [Your Blog Title] Password Reset. Sometimes you may have to wait for a few minutes to receive the email in your inbox (depending on the hosting server's configuration). If you still do not see an email, then check your email's Spam or Junk Mail folder.
When you open the email, it will see a message similar to the following:
Someone requested that the password to be reset for the following account:
http://www.yoursite.com/
Username: [username]
If this was a mistake, just ignore this email and nothing will happen.
To reset your password, visit the following address:
<http://www.yoursite.com/wp-login.php?action=rp&key=aabbccddxx112233&login=username>
Click on this last link to go to the "reset your password" page of your website. In this page, you will be allowed to enter a new password for your WordPress account.
WordPress will automatically generate and pre-fill the password field with a strong password, but you can put your own password if you wish. The password strength indicator bar will also show you the strength of your password.
Though WordPress will allow you to set a weak password, it is recommended that you choose a strong password that has more than 8 characters, contains both upper and lower case characters, numbers, and special characters like ! ” ? $ % ^ &.
Once you have entered the new password, press the Reset Password button to confirm your action. This time you will see a message that “Your password has been reset. Log in”.
That's all; you have successfully reset your WordPress password. Click on the “Login” link to sign in to your WordPress blog using your new password.
